Palace condoles with kin of ex-DPWH exec Cabral

Malacañang expressed condolences Friday to the family of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral over her untimely death.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said this in a press briefing. She said Malacañang respects the privacy of Cabral's grieving family.

''Nakikiramay po tayo sa pamilya na naiwan po ni former Usec. Catalina Cabral at nakakalungkot po ang nangyari pero, iyon po, muli nakikiramay po tayo,'' Castro said.

(We condole with the family of former Usec. Catalina Cabral and we are saddened by this incident, but again, we condole with her family.)

''Ginagalang po natin muna pansamantala ang pribadong buhay at ang pamilya po ni Usec. Cabral,'' she said.

(We respect the private life of Cabral and her family.)

Castro said the investigation on Cabral's death is already in the hands of authorities.

She said President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. does not need to order an investigation into the matter as this is part of the mandate of the Philippine National Police.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure has called for a thorough investigation into the untimely death of Cabral, who was a key figure in the flood control scandal.

In a statement, the ICI said that the investigation would seek to ensure that there was no foul play in Cabral’s death.
