‘Team Tipid’ or ‘Team Galante’? Pinoys weigh in on giving gifts this Christmas

Some Filipinos are choosing to hold on tight to their wallets when it comes to giving gifts this Christmas season.

According to a report in “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, GMA Integrated News asked the public if they are “Team Tipid” or “Team Galante” when it came to gift-giving.

Some said they usually choose to stick to a tight budget in picking out gifts.

“Siyempre, sa hirap din ng buhay, katulad ko, may pinag-aaral pa rin, kaya kung ano lang ‘yung makakaya ko, ‘yun lang ibibigay ko,” one said.

(Of course, with life being so difficult nowadays, and I am still sending a child to school. So I just give whatever I could afford.)

“Ang ginagawa ko po is kung ano lang po ‘yung naipon ko doon, hinahati ko po sa kanila para pantay-pantay,” another said.

(What I do is I check what I’ve saved and split it evenly and fairly.)

Other netizens said they are part of “Team Tipid” as they have other daily expenses to worry about.

Others admitted that they have yet to find a job that will enable them to buy gifts for their loved ones, while other netizens said they did not receive a bonus or 13th month pay that could have helped with the season’s expenses.

On the other hand, some Filipinos said they belong to “Team Galante,” noting that Christmas happens just once a year.

One netizen said she would rather spend her money this Christmas instead of putting her money in the hands of corrupt officials. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
