NAPOLCOM warns, urges public to report fake socmed pages

The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) on Monday warned the public to be on the lookout for fake Facebook pages and social media accounts that impersonate the NAPOLCOM and engage in illegal, unsanctioned transactions.

In a statement, NAPOLCOM vice chairperson and executive officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan stressed that the agency maintains only one official Facebook page, as he urged the public to report suspicious accounts to the NAPOLCOM.

“We will not tolerate misrepresentation that deceives the public and damages the credibility of government institutions. NAPOLCOM is taking decisive steps to stop these fraudulent activities,” the NAPOLCOM commissioner said, adding that bogus pages “undermine public trust and expose citizens to online scams.”

All NAPOLCOM personnel nationwide were told to mass report fake Facebook pages.

It also urged the public to report suspicious Facebook pages through official NAPOLCOM channels such as its official Facebook page, @NationalPoliceCommission.

“To further inform the public, NAPOLCOM will publish a partial list of identified fake Facebook page names on its official Facebook page, strictly for public awareness and reporting purposes,” NAPOLCOM said.

It added that the official NAPOLCOM Facebook page does not request payments, personal information, or documents through unofficial or unverified social media accounts.

The government agency also established a centralized reporting mechanism to document and validate impersonating accounts for the prompt takedown of fraudulent pages.

NAPOLCOM also assured that it will “continue strengthening its digital safeguards to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability.” — JMA, GMA Integrated News
