MTRCB: Only G, PG content may be shown inside public utility vehicles
As millions of Filipinos travel for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) reminded public transport operators and drivers that only content rated G (General Patronage) and PG (Parental Guidance) may be shown inside public utility vehicles while in transit.
The advisory covers all audio-visual materials displayed or played in public transport, including buses and other vehicles used for public conveyance, as commuter volume is expected to rise during the holiday season.
The MTRCB said the reminder is in line with Presidential Decree No. 1986 and the 2004 Revised MTRCB Implementing Rules and Regulations, which require transport operators and drivers to ensure that materials accessible to passengers are suitable for general audiences, particularly children.
“This is part of our larger responsibility to ensure that every commuter, particularly commuting Filipino children, will experience a safe and family-friendly environment, even while in transit,” MTRCB chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto said.
According to MTRCB, the holiday period typically sees an increase in families and young passengers traveling across the country, making strict compliance with content classification rules more critical.
The MTRCB urged transport operators and drivers to be responsible in selecting in-vehicle entertainment, warning that violations may result in penalties under existing rules and regulations.
The public was also encouraged to help enforce responsible viewing by reporting violations through the MTRCB’s official social media accounts (@MTRCBGov) or via email at complaints@mtrcb.gov.ph. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
