NAPOLCOM to simultaneously serve 4,000 cases cleared from 25-year backlog
The National Police Commission said will be simultaneously serving the 4,000 internal cases against police officials that it had resolved after clearing a 25-year backlog, it said on Wednesday.
In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, NAPOLCOM Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan said that some cases involved officers who had already retired from the service.
“Minsan napapailing ako, na ano ba nangyari sa previous commissions? Ano ang nangyari diyan at parang napabayaan ang lahat?... Yung kaso ng mga pulis, yung kaso ng mga ordinaryong tao laban sa mapang-abusong pulis ay inupuan, tinulugan for 25 years… Yung iba nagretiro na, yung iba wala na sa serbisyo,” he shared.
(Sometimes, I find myself shaking my head, because what happened to the previous commissions? What happened since it seems like everything was abandoned?... The cases of the police officers, the cases of ordinary people against abusive policemen are just sat on and slept on for 25 years… Others have already retired, and others are already not in service.)
He added that the number of personnel involved in the cases was higher than the number of cases, 4,000.
“Four thousand cases [ang backlog]. Samu’t-sari… Pero isang kaso can be isang respondent. Can be 10, can be 12 [ang involved]… Napakaraming police po ang [abusado],” he said.
([The backlog] was 4,000 cases. Different ones… But one case can be just one respondent. Can be 10, can be 12 [who are involved]… There are a lot of [abusive] police officers.)
“Ang challenge ngayon ay ipiprint na namin yung 4,000 kaso at pipirmahan namin sabay-sabay. Ise-serve namin lahat yung mga kasong drafted na kumbaga nasulat na, ipr-iprint na lang at ipapadala sa bahay at opisina ng pulis at mga complainant,” he added.
(The challenge now is to print all 4,000 cases and have it signed simultaneously. We will serve all the drafted cases that have already been written down, print it out, and send it to the homes and offices of the police officers and the complainants.) — Jiselle Anne C.
