Firecracker-related injuries now at 28 — DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 28 firework-related injuries nationwide.

In an advisory on Christmas Day, the DOH shared that eight new cases have been recorded between December 21 and December 25, 4 a.m.

Data also showed that 68% of the victims were aged 19 years old and below.

Most victims suffered injuries due to the firecracker Boga, 5-star, and Triangle.

“Agad na dalhin [ang biktima] sa ospital kung may aksidente dulot sa paputok… Tumawag agad sa National Emergency Hotline 911 para sa emergency medical hotline assistance,” DOH said in their advisory.

(Immediately bring [the victim] to the hospital if there had been an accident caused by firecrackers… Call the National Emergency Hotline 911 right away for emergency medical hotline assistance.)

Despite this, the Health Department said the record is still 50% lower than the 58 cases on Christmas Day in 2024.

Data released by the DOH was gathered from 62 sentinel hospitals that are being monitored for firecracker-related injuries.

The DOH is set to observe the number of firecracker-related incidents until January 5, 2026 as part of their holiday monitoring efforts.

Avoiding firecrackers is among the “bad habits” that the agency warned against in their campaign for a safer holiday season. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
