PH to host 2 int’l tourism forums in 2026 – DOT

The Philippines is gearing to host two international tourism forums next year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said on Thursday.

These are the 2026 United Nations (UN) Tourism Global Forum on Gastronomy as well as the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cebu.

“Looking ahead, the Philippines prepares to host the UN Tourism Global Forum on Gastronomy and the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026 in Cebu, affirming our leadership and resilience in shaping the future of tourism in the region,” DOT Secretary Christina Frasco said in her Christmas Day message.

“Under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., tourism remains a vital engine for inclusive growth, creating jobs, empowering communities, and ensuring that progress reaches every region, especially those most in need,” she added.

Frasco also recalled the difficulties and milestones the country achieved this year including the entry of the Michelin Guide into the Philippines in 2025.

“This year tested our nation. Natural calamities struck our communities, disrupted livelihoods, and reminded us how fragile progress can be,” she said.

“In these most difficult moments, tourism stood as a source of hope, restoring work, sustaining families, and helping communities rise with courage and resolve,” Frasco added.

Earlier, Frasco said the country’s hosting of the 10th UN Tourism World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, which is expected to gather global leaders, chefs, innovators, and advocates from more than 150 countries, would position the Philippines as a rising hub for gastronomy

“On behalf of the Department of Tourism, I extend my governments, stakeholders, and fellow public servants who stood firm through a challenging year and served our people with dedication and heart,” Frasco added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
