DOH: 2 dead, over 260 hurt in motorcycle crashes amid Christmas 2025 rush
At least two individuals died while over 260 people were injured in motorcycle mishaps amid the Christmas rush, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday.
Based on its road crash injuries bulletin for December 21 to 5 a.m. of December 26, the DOH said the number of cases or individuals involved in road crash incidents reached 263.
This was 7% lower compared to the same monitoring period in 2024. The new figure came from data submitted by 10 sentinel hospitals being monitored by the Health Department.
A total of two people died, both of whom did not wear helmets.
Thirty-one motorists were found to be driving under the influence, while 224 were not using safety accessories such as helmets and seat belts in 193 motorcycle road crashes.
The DOH issued the following reminders to motorists to ensure safety when traveling:
- Wear helmets approved by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) when riding a motorcycle, and seat belts for both drivers and passengers of vehicles.
- Do not drive when tired or under the influence of alcohol.
- Follow prescribed speed limits and road signs to ensure a safe and smooth journey.
- Make sure to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep before traveling.
- Avoid using your cellphone onboard a motorcycle.
