Flood control probe: Palace vows to jail more personalities soon

More individuals linked to the flood control scandal will be "thrown behind bars" amid the ongoing investigation into the controversy, Malacanang said Friday.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez made the remarks, assuring the public that the investigation will not end on Christmas Day.

"Some quarters are calling the Discaya couple as the new Napoles but their unexplained wealth is ten times over. Both spent Christmas in detention," Gomez said.

Gomez is referring to contractor-couple Cezarah "Sarah" and Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya, key figures in the flood control mess.

Sarah is currently committed at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu after being served an arrest warrant by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for corruption and malversation of funds charges in connection with the P96.5-million ghost flood control project in Davao Occidental.

Meanwhile, Curlee spent Christmas Day in Senate detention after he was cited in contempt by the Blue Ribbon Committee for lying about his absence during a hearing on anomalous flood control projects on September 18.

"The flood control investigation does not end on December 25. It's only been a little over four months. The Napoles probe took almost a year before people were sent to jail. There will surely be more thrown behind bars in the New Year," Gomez added.
