Fire hits 50 families in Mandaluyong City

At least 50 families were affected by a fire that broke out Saturday night in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City, according to barangay officials.

A DZBB report quoted Barangay Chairman Carlito Cernal as saying the figure is an initial estimate, adding that most of the affected houses were small and closely built.

He added that four informal settler families were among those affected by the blaze, which started at around 7:30 p.m. in a residential area of the barangay.

Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), along with volunteer rescue units, responded to the scene as flames and thick smoke spread through the area.

According to DZBB updates posted on X, firefighters declared the blaze under control at around 8:10 p.m.

Cernal said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, as BFP investigators were still conducting a probe.

The barangay chairman also confirmed that a fire volunteer was injured after his house collapsed during the incident and was brought to the hospital for treatment. As of posting time, no fatalities had been reported.

Cernal said affected families would be temporarily housed at the permanent evacuation center built by the local government unit once clearing operations are completed.

This is not the first fire incident in the area this year, according to Cernal, who said portions of the barangay had experienced multiple fire incidents, including earlier blazes in Blocks 27–29, Block 6, and Block 33.

Cernal reminded residents and business owners to remain cautious, particularly as the New Year approaches.

“I always remind business owners and communities to be careful, especially inside their homes,” he said, discouraging celebrations involving fire or fireworks in narrow streets and residential areas.
