LTO vows ramped-up deployment ahead of influx of New Year travelers

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday assured that it is ramping up its deployment of law enforcers to ensure the safe and orderly journey of travelers ahead of the New Year celebration.

In a statement, the agency said LTO chief and Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered the LTO – Law Enforcement Service, Regional Law Enforcement, and K9 units to continue its strict monitoring and inspection of public utility vehicles to ensure the safety of travelers.

This is as more motorists and travelers are expected to travel for the New Year celebrations.

Lacanilao’s directive is part of the Department of Transportation (DOTr)-LTO “Oplan Biyaheng Ligtas! Pasko 2025” initiative.

The LTO will focus on stricter enforcement of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and other related laws and extending assistance to the riding public especially young passengers, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The agency will also manage traffic direction and traffic control in major roads leading to shopping centers, recreational and amusement areas; and conduct information and education campaigns on laws, rules, and regulations related to land transportation.

Lacanilao also reminded the public to cooperate with authorities, follow traffic rules, and immediately report any violations to ensure a safe and orderly travel experience during the travel season.

Last week, the LTO deployed Mobile Command Centers powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) for a safer and smoother travel experience this holiday season.

The AI-powered Mobile Command Centers can analyze passing vehicles through CCTV footage and can access the LTO database for registration, active cases or alarms, or unauthorized and illegal changes on the vehicle. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
