Firecracker-related injuries now at 140 cases nationwide —DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 140 cases of fireworks-related injuries nationwide as of Tuesday.

The tally showed that 15 cases have been added between the last monitoring period on December 29 up to 4 a.m. on December 30.

In its latest advisory, DOH shared that 95 patients out of the 140 cases  or 68% were aged 19 years old and below.

Despite this, the current caseload is still 23% lower compared to same period last year at 182.

Meanwhile, DOH said the top three causes of injuries were the explosives 5-star, Boga, and unknown or undetermined firecrackers.

“Agad na dalhin [ang biktima] sa ospital kung may aksidente dulot sa paputok… Tumawag agad sa National Emergency Hotline 911 para sa emergency medical hotline assistance,” DOH said in its advisory.

(Immediately bring [the victim] to the hospital if there had been an accident caused by firecrackers… Call the National Emergency Hotline 911 right away for emergency medical hotline assistance.)

Data for the tally was gathered from 62 sentinel hospitals from December 21 to 30.

DOH is set to observe the number of firecracker-related incidents until January 5, 2026 as part of its holiday monitoring efforts. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
