Filipinos share hopes, wishes, baggage to leave for 2026

Filipinos shared their hopes and wishes as they look forward to welcoming the new year with a fresh start.

In Dano Tingcungco’s report in “24 Oras” on Wednesday, people in New York City just observed the “Good Riddance Day” where they write down unwanted experiences and throw them on a bin as a symbol of moving forward.

While the Philippines does not observe such traditions, there are Filipinos who have baggage they wish to leave behind in 2025.

For instance, Mica had to endure her mother’s tuberculosis diagnosis and the gambling addiction of some relatives.

“Yes, para maging happy naman ang aming 2026,” she said as looks forward to 2026 with a clean slate.

(Yes, so that our 2026 will be happy.)

“Maging masaya lang yung pamilya, pumasok yung mga blessings, walang sakit ang pamilya,” said Mica.

(I wish that my family just stays happy, that blessings come, and that no one in our family gets sick.)

Meanwhile, Marlyn is hoping to recover from high blood sugar which she just recently experienced.

“Ang gusto ko pagdating ng 2026 ay mawala na lahat. ‘Yun lang hinihiling ko,” she said.

(What I want when 2026 arrives is for all [these ailments] to be gone. That is all I am asking for.)

She also prays for the careers of her children and hopes that their relationship will remain good.

“Ayun pa rin, yung [magandang] samahan naming mag-ina,” she said when asked she wanted to bring with her in the new year.

(Still the same and that is our relationship as mother and children remains good.)

For some, however, the baggage they want to leave behind is not bad experiences, but negative traits.

“Siguro yung mga sobrang, nago-overthink ako masyado…Pinapangunahan ko yung present,” said PB.

(Perhaps my [habit of] overthinking too much…I always go ahead of the present.)

“Itatapon ko yung katamaran ko…I haven’t done much this year, but hopefully next year, I’m able to do a lot more,” said Mil.

(I will discard my laziness… I haven’t done much this year, but hopefully next year, I’m able to do a lot more.)

“Probably, negativity. I haven’t really moved much because I let myself dwell sa negativity around me and myself, so I want to throw that out,” said Hyacinth.

(Probably, negativity. I haven’t really moved much because I let myself dwell on the negativity around me and myself, so I want to throw that out.)

On a positive note, they also shared their dreams and plans for 2026.

“Gusto kong maka-travel sa maraming lugar,” said PB as she set her sight to visit Japan soon.

(I want to be able to travel to many places.)

“I manifest many blessings next year for myself and for everyone,” said Mil. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
