Fireworks-related injuries hit 655, down 20% from last year

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 655 fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) nationwide since its monitoring began on December 21.

This figure was 20% lower compared to the 819 total cases reported on January 3, 2025, the DOH said in its report at 4 a.m. Saturday.

The DOH said that out of the 655 cases, 54%—which translates to 351 cases—involved victims who were 19 years old or younger.

Nineteen victims required amputation of affected limbs. Eleven of these 19 victims were minors.

Most of the cases were caused by unknown firecrackers, followed by kwitis and 5-star.

Earlier, the DOH said that there were fewer reported cases of FWRIs in 2025, but the injuries were more severe. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
