Stroke, acute coronary syndrome, asthma cases amid holiday season reach 349

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 349 cases of non-communicable diseases (NCD) in the country from December 21, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

“Mas mataas ito ng 9% kumpara sa kaparehong panahon ng surveillance noong 2024 patawid ng 2025, na may 319 cases,” the DOH said.

(This is 9% higher than the same surveillance period in 2024 through 2025, which had 319 cases.)

Of the 349 patients, two passed away from acute coronary syndrome and five died from acute stroke.

Acute stroke accounted for 205 of the 349 NCD cases. Individuals between the ages of 40 and 79 comprised the majority of acute stroke cases.

Acute coronary syndrome afflicted 95 persons, especially those 50 years of age and older.

The DOH also logged 49 cases of bronchial asthma.

The DOH reminded the public to observe the following to avoid contracting non-communicable diseases:

  • Avoid excessive eating, smoking, drinking, and stress.
  • Seek immediate help in case of loss of breath or chest pains.
  • Maintain regular blood pressure and physical activity.
  • Seek immediate help in case of numbness or weakness in any part of the body.
  • Avoid asthma triggers such as dust or smoke.
  • Ensure the environment remains clean and tidy.
  • Always keep inhalers and medicine.
