Socmed posts on 'extended' Christmas break are fake news – DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Sunday warned the public against social media posts falsely claiming that classes in public schools will resume next week and not on Monday, January 5, 2026.

In a post on its Facebook page, the DepEd stressed that the resumption of classes is on January 5 based on DepEd Order No. 12, series of 2025 that detailed the school calendar.

“Anumang post sa social media na nagsasabing Enero 12, 2026 ang pagbabalik ng klase ay fake news,” the agency said.

(Any post on social media that says January 12, 2026 is the resumption of classes is fake news.)

The fake news alert was accompanied by a screenshot of a social media post that wrongly claimed that the Christmas break of students has been extended.

The DepEd reminded the public to be critical of such social media posts.

“Iwasang magbahagi ng maling balita at sumangguni lamang sa opisyal na DepEd Philippines social media accounts para sa tama at napapanahong anunsiyo,” it added.
