PNP: Firecracker-related injuries now 875
A total of 875 people have been injured due to firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices amid the 2026 New Year celebration, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday.
Based on the PNP data from December 16, 2025 to January 5, 2026, one person in Metro Manila died due to a firecracker-related incident.
Most of the firecracker-related injuries were reported in Metro Manila with 206 cases, followed by Soccsksargen with 104, and Calabarzon with 88.
A total of 401,368 illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics worth over P5.5 million were confiscated. A total of 471 people were arrested.
For indiscriminate firing incidents, the PNP monitored two injured individuals and 19 arrested suspects.
One person was killed by a stray bullet in Metro Manila while three others were injured in Calabarzon, Davao Region, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
No one has been arrested yet in the stray bullet incidents, according to the PNP.
Despite these incidents, the PNP earlier said that the observance of the holidays was generally peaceful nationwide. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
