LTO waives P100 registration fee for customized motorcycle top box, saddle bag

Top box and saddle bag waived fees

As part of its efforts to ease the financial burdens of riders who are dependent on their motorcycles for their livelihood, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has removed the P100 fee imposed on motorcycle riders who register their custom-made top box and saddle bags – but will still require the registration of the said accessories.

This was after LTO chief and Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao signed a memorandum that removed the registration fee for the customized motorcycle accessories.

“Ito ay malaking tulong sa mga rider na umaasa sa kanilang motorsiklo sa kanilang paghahanapbuhay para maalis na ang dagdag na gastusin,” Lacanilao said in a statement on Monday.

(This is a big help to riders who are dependent on their motorcycles for their livelihood so that they will have less expenses to think about.)

Previously, customized top boxes and saddle bags that exceed certain dimensions need to be registered with the LTO. Mass-produced top boxes usually don’t need to be registered with the agency.

Lacanilao explained that only the P100 registration fee will be removed. Motorcycle riders who use customized top boxes and saddle bags will still need to register the said accessories with the LTO.

(This is in line with the 7-Point Police Agenda of the LTO that focuses on removing unnecessary expenses and easing the financial burdens of our citizens who are dependent on motorcycles, by easing their budget while maintaining regulations for road safety.)

(Although there’s no more fee, they still need to register custom-made top box and saddle bags with the LTO.)

In lieu of an official receipt which used to serve as proof of registration, the LTO will issue a certification as proof of registration for custom-made accessories.

Lacanilao encouraged stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, inspection centers, and LTO regional directors to help implement the new policy and help motorcycle owners to complete the process of registration without delay.

He explained that the requirement is aimed at ensuring that the motorcycle riders follow the LTO’s guidelines. It is also important for the LTO to see to it that the motorcycle is fit to carry the additional accessories and can travel safely on the road.
