DepEd allocates P100M for AI center

The Department of Education (DepEd) has allocated P100 million to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) center, targeted to train Filipino students on the use of the emerging technology.

In a Palace briefing, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said that DepEd has partnered with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to review the curriculum for the new AI center, which is poised to be completed by the first quarter or early second quarter of 2026.

"We put up an AI center tapos kasama natin ang MIT na fina-finalize ang AI curriculum ng Philippines," Angara said.

Angara said the MIT offered to help in the curriculum review for free.

In July 2025, the DepEd announced it is set to revise the national curriculum to include training on the use of AI to better prepare Filipino learners and educators for the fast-evolving digital landscape. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
