Do's and Don'ts for Traslacion in Nazareno 2026
Just over a week into the new year, the country will celebrate the traditional Traslacion on Friday, January 9, 2026 to commemorate the transfer of the image of the Jesus Nazareno from Intramuros to its current home in Quiapo Church.
Here are some reminders for those who will participate in Traslacion 2026.
The Manila Police District (MPD) reminded Nazareno devotees that the following items are prohibited during the Traslacion:
- Firearms
- Fireworks and pyrotechnics
- Glass water canisters
- Hoodies (should not be worn)
- Caps or hats (should not be worn)
MDP advised Nazareno devotees to avoid the following:
- Bringing of bags and gadgets
- Wearing jewelry
- Bringing infants, children, and senior citizens
- Participating if sick, pregnant, or drunk
Instead, Nazareno devotees were urged to practice the following:
- Wear comfortable clothes
- Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration
- Bring transparent bags

PH Red Cross
Meanwhile, the Philippine Red Cross released the following safety tips:
- Bring a medicine kit containing first aid supplies
- Keep a safe distance and avoid pushing into densely packed areas, especially near the Andas or carriage
- Be aware of the locations of Red Cross stations, police, and volunteers
- If it's too dense, find a safer spot to participate and reflect
- Approach nearby volunteers or authorities, if you feel unwell or unsafe
- Ensure you stay close to your group to avoid getting separated in the crowd
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked before joining the procession
- Pack easy-to-carry snacks and enough water
- Be physically prepared by having enough sleep
- Familiarize the procession route and identify safe entry and exit points
- Be prepared to assist yourself or others

Appeal to comply
In an interview in "Balitanghali," MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines urged Nazareno devotees to follow the directives of Quiapo Church and authorities for a safe and orderly Traslacion.
"Makakaasa kayo sa Manila Police District at Philippine National Police na nandyan tayo para bantayan natin 'yung kaayusan," Ines said.

He added that, instead of joining the Translacion, children and senior citizens may opt to watch the livestream on Quiapo Church's social media pages.
Guns, liquor, firecrackers
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will impose a gun ban in Manila City from January 8 to 10 as part of its full security plan for Traslacion 2026.
The Manila City government, meanwhile, will enforce a liquor ban on January 9 within a 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and along the Traslacion route.
Further, the city government will likewise implement a total ban on the manufacture, sale, and use of fireworks and firecrackers from January 8 to January 9.
A new queue system for the "pahalik" of the image of Jesus Nazareno will be imposed, as Quiapo Church targets to finish the Traslacion within 15 hours.

Meanwhile, the Quiapo Church has released a reminder on road closures and traffic schemes to be enforced in Manila City in view of the religious activity.
