PCG to deploy personnel for safe Traslacion 2026

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday said it will deploy personnel to help ensure public safety during the traditional Traslacion on Friday, January 9.

According to PCG spokesperson Captain Noemie Cayabyab, among the deployed units are medical responders, K9 units, search and rescue teams, and specialized units.

These specialized units include explosive ordnance disposal forces, special operations groups, civil disturbance management teams, and deployable response groups for a prompt response to emergencies or maritime incidents.

“Close coordination with the AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines], Philippine National Police [PNP], and Manila City LGU will be maintained to ensure seamless interagency operations in safeguarding the millions of devotees expected to participate in Traslacion 2026,” Cayabyab said.

PCG urged the public to be vigilant and to cooperate with authorities to maintain a safe and orderly Traslacion.

The Coast Guard will also deploy its patrol boats and other floating assets to monitor the celebration.

The Philippine National Police earlier announced that it will deploy 15,000 personnel on top of the other personnel to be deployed by other government agencies to ensure public security and maintain order amid large crowds.

In an interview in "Balitanghali," MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines urged Nazareno devotees to follow the directives of Quiapo Church and authorities for a safe and orderly Traslacion.

Malacañang has declared Friday, January 9, 2026, a special non-working day in the City of Manila in observance of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

Celebrated every January 9, the Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of Jesus Nazareno from the San Nicolas de Tolentino Church in Intramuros to Quiapo Church in the 1700s. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
