PNP: Retired general in P70K shoes complaint may face pension cut if guilty
The police general facing a complaint for wearing P70,599 luxury shoes while in uniform may still be punished with pension reduction if found guilty, even though the case was filed only two days before her retirement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the administrative case against former Health Service head retired Police Brigadier General Jezebel Imelda Medina was filed December 23, 2025.
Medina retired on December 25.
“Ang compulsory retirement po kasi ay hindi makaka-epekto sa pendency ng ifinile na kaso bago siya po mag-retire. Ito po ay magpapatuloy hanggang sa mabigyan ng desisyon, resolusyon,” Tuaño said.
The PNP spokesperson said that Medina was able to receive her retirement benefits but these will be deducted from her pension if she is found guilty.
“Kapag nagkaroon ng desisyon later on, assuming po for the sake of argument, na ma-find guilty po 'yung ating PNP personnel ay ito po ay ibabawas sa kaniyang pension,” Tuaño said.
On Wednesday, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) said Medina is facing administrative complaint for less grave neglect of duty and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
NAPOLCOM vice chairperson and executive officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the complaint stemmed from two incidents.
First, Calinisan said Medina, as the Health Service director, willfully failed to submit the required psychiatric and psychological examination (PPE) report of another cop in Quezon City.
The police patrolman asked to undergo the psychiatric and psychological assessment was accused of engaging in seditious vlogging activities.
Second, Calinisan said the complaint also cited Medina's alleged public display of luxury footwear worth P70,599 while wearing the PNP uniform.
The amount is nearly equivalent to a month’s basic salary of a police brigadier general, the NAPOLCOM noted.
