VP Sara underscores faith, humility in message for Feast of Jesus Nazareno
Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday called on Filipinos to draw strength from faith, sacrifice, and humility as the Catholic faithful observed the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
In a message released on January 9, the Vice President said the annual devotion to the Jesus Nazareno reflects the enduring faith of Filipinos, especially amid hardship and trials.
“Sa pagdiriwang natin ng kapistahan ng Black Nazarene, muling binibigyang-diin ang ating matibay na pananampalataya bilang mga Pilipino," she said.
(As we celebrate the feast of the Black Nazarene, we once again emphasize our steadfast faith as Filipinos.)
The statement highlighted the symbolism of the Nazarene’s suffering, pointing to Christ’s love, sacrifice, and humility as values that continue to guide the faithful.
(Devotion to the Black Nazarene reminds us of Jesus’ incomparable love, sacrifice, and humility for humanity.)
The Vice President also recognized the physical and spiritual sacrifices made by devotees who join the annual procession.
(Every year, every step taken by devotees, despite hardship and trials, strengthens our faith.)
Beyond tradition, the Vice President described the feast as a moment for reflection, repentance, and gratitude.
(The Feast of the Black Nazarene is not only a celebration of tradition; it is a call to reflect on our shortcomings, seek forgiveness, and give thanks for all the blessings we have received.)
The message concluded with a call to live out the teachings of love and trust in God, linking faith to service to country and family.
(May the Black Nazarene serve as an inspiration for us to continue living out the teachings of love and trust in God’s plan.)
(Let us love the Philippines—for God, for the nation, and for every Filipino family.)
