8 seized luxury vehicles linked to Zaldy Co now in ICI parking lot

Eight luxury vehicles linked to former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co seized by the Bureau of Customs and Philippine National Police on Thursday evening have been brought to the parking lot of Independent Commission for Infrastructure.

"The seized vehicles are currently in the parking lot of the ICI due to the lack of space in the BOC compound and the proximity of the ICI’s location from the place of search," ICI said in a press statement Friday

The ICI said it received information regarding 15 vehicles linked to Co.

After obtaining and verifying the plate numbers of the vehicles, ICI relayed the information to the Land Transportation Office for ownership verification and to the BOC to check whether  the vehicles had complete importation documents and payments.

“The vehicles were found to be registered under entities with ties to the former representative,” it said.

Meanwhile, nine of the 15 vehicles have incomplete importation documents and unpaid duties and taxes.

A regional trial court then issued search warrants for the vehicles after it found probable cause that a violation of the Customs Modernization And Tariff Act was committed.

However, only eight vehicles were found in the condominium’s parking lot during the search.

“The ICI remains dedicated to verifying and acting upon the information it receives and encourages the submission to the Commission of credible information relevant to its ongoing investigation of anomalous flood control and infrastructure projects,” it said.

Earlier in the day, Atty. Ruy Rondain, Co's legal counsel, vowed to file criminal charges against police officials over the alleged illegal and abusive seizure of the vehicles. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
