Marcos leads donning of rank to PSC commander
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday led the Donning of Rank of Rear Admiral Andro Val Abayon, the Presidential Security Command (PSC) commander, in ceremonies at Malacanang.
Marcos appointed Abayon to the rank of Rear Admiral on January 5, 2026 from the rank of Commodore at the Philippine Navy.
He became the PSC's 43rd Commander.
The PSC serves as the premier protective unit of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) tasked to ensure the physical security and safety of the President, the First Family, and the seat of government at Malacañan Palace.
Before his stint at the PSC, Abayon held multiple key positions in the AFP, including Commander of the Naval Special Warfare Force; Commandant of the Special Intelligence Training School of the Intelligence Service, AFP; Director of the AFP Leadership Development Center; Commander of the Philippine Navy Special Operations Group; and Director of the Maritime Research Information Center, Naval Intelligence and Security Force.
He was also a former Group Commander of the Naval Intelligence and Security Group-Western Mindanao.
Abayon graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1994. He also attended the Joint Military Intelligence Training Center in Washington D.C., USA in 2016; AFP Command and Generals' Staff Course in 2017; Development Academy of the Philippines in 2017; US Naval War College in 2020; and National Defense College of the Philippines in 2022. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
