TESDA encourages availment of scholarships for vocational programs

TESDA encourages availment of scholarships for vocational programs

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Tuesday encouraged interested technical-vocational program students to avail of the scholarships offered by the agency.

“Malaki po yung budget na nakuha, ibinigay sa TESDA this year, particularly po for scholarships. I-avail po natin ‘to and how to avail that, pumunta lang tayo sa pinakamalapit na TESDA,” said Nelly Dillera,  TESDA deputy director general for Technical-Vocational Education and Training partnership and community-based TVET, in an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

(The budget obtained and given to TESDA this year is quite large, particularly for scholarships. Let’s avail of this, and to do so, just go to the nearest TESDA [office].)

TESDA said the curriculum for technical-vocation programs are in partnership with various industries.

“Ang ginagawa po nating programs, ang ginagawa nating curriculum are all in partnership with industries. Dahil gusto natin aligned yung atin pong mga programa doon sa kakailanganin ng ating companies who will eventually hire our learners,” said Dillera.

(The programs and curriculum we are creating are all in partnership with industries. This is because we want our programs to be aligned with the requirements of the companies that will eventually hire our learners.)

Further, TESDA said technical-vocational students who wish to pursue a college degree may present their vocational program certificates.

“Kung ano yung certificates na makukuha sa Department of Education pwede na siyang i-stock at kilalanin sa TESDA. And in the same manner,  ‘yung lahat po ng mga certificates na makukuha sa tech-voc education pwede rin siyang i-stock and you can use that doon sa higher education. You don’t have to start from scratch when you wanted to proceed to higher education dahil pwede nang i-recognize yung  mga nakuha po nating previous certificates,” said Dillera.

(Whatever certificates are obtained from the Department of Education can be credited and recognized by TESDA. And in the same manner, all certificates obtained from tech-voc education can also be credited and used for higher education. You don’t have to start from scratch when you want to proceed to higher education because your previously earned certificates can now be recognized.)

“We’re actually starting and piloting certain qualifications and certain programs on that,” she added. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
