PNP acting chief Nartatez: Sched of pending 4-star promotion up to NAPOLCOM

PNP acting chief Nartatez: Sched of pending 4-star promotion up to NAPOLCOM

Philippine National Police acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Wednesday the schedule of his promotion to four-star rank is up to the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM).

“With regard to the pending four-star, it’s up to the NAPOLCOM that administers the PNP kapag nag-submit na sila ng recommendation for the promotion,” Nartatez said at a Palace briefing.

“Hindi ko na iniisip iyon. Ang iniisip ko lang is how to guide, handle a bureaucracy under the Department of the Interior and Local Government consisting of 230,000 PNP personnel plus the needed police services sa hundred million community members. So as of now, wala pa akong information,” he added.

Former PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III is holding the four-star rank.

Torre took his oath in December 2025 as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said that it would be a mandatory retirement for Torre ''if he chooses another job.''

To recall, Torre was relieved from his post as PNP chief on August 25, 2025. He was replaced by Nartatez.

Remulla had said that one of the reasons Torre was relieved as PNP chief was his defiance to an order of the NAPOLCOM on the reassignment of key officials. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
