Who is Colonel Audie Mongao?
The Philippine Army has relieved Colonel Audie Mongao from his post following reports that he allegedly withdrew support from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Major General Michael Logico, Commander of the Army’s Training Command (TRACOM), said Mongao was removed as Commander of the Training Support Group amid the ongoing investigation.
But who is Mongao?
He is a senior officer in the Philippine Army whose career spans over three decades, largely focused on training, doctrine development, and field command, according to AFP records provided to GMA News Online on Wednesday.
Mongao entered military service in April 1988 and earned his commission through the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) as part of the Class of 1992, officially assuming active duty in February 1992.
Over the years, Mongao gained a reputation as a training-oriented officer, taking on roles that directly shaped how soldiers are prepared for both combat and non-combat missions.
One of his key assignments was as Director of the Training Design and Development Center (TDDC) under TRACOM. In this role, he was involved in crafting and refining training programs, doctrines, and instructional frameworks aimed at improving the operational readiness of Army personnel.
Mongao also previously served as Battalion Commander of the 15th Infantry Battalion stationed in Lanao del Norte. Most recently, he led the Training Support Group, which plays a central role in supporting Army-wide training exercises and ensuring that units nationwide adhere to established standards and doctrine.
On Tuesday, the AFP said it is premature to discuss possible charges against Mongao. AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla said the investigation is still ongoing.
“With the case of Colonel Audie Mongao, it is currently under investigation. The inquiry is ongoing as of this time, and because of that, it is premature to state any specific charges that will be filed,” Padilla said.
“But definitely, the investigation will continue, and we are assuring the public that due process will be accorded. The AFP will conduct this in accordance with existing rules and policies,” she added.
