Quiboloy, Torre meet in court for first time since 2024 arrest

Detained televangelist Apollo Quiboloy and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicolas Torre III saw each other in court on Thursday for the first time since Quiboloy’s arrest in 2024.

According to a report on “Saksi” on Thursday night, Torre said Quiboloy was the first one to greet him. Torre said he responded to the greeting.

For his part, Quiboloy said his encounter with the former PNP chief went well.

Torre, who headed the operation that led to Quiboloy’s arrest, attended the hearing to testify on the qualified human trafficking case against the televangelist.

The details of the hearing were not made available to the public.

Torre and Quiboloy are expected to meet again on Friday for the continuation of the hearing.

In September 2024, Quiboloy was arrested inside the compound of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ in Davao City in an operation led by Torre, then the director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the PNP.

Torre is now general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) after he was removed as PNP chief. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
