Impeach rumors vs Marcos ‘shapeless,’ says Adiong

Impeach rumors vs Marcos ‘shapeless,’ says Adiong

House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms chairperson Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong brushed off the alleged planned impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as “vague” and “formless.”

“Unang una, hindi natin alam kung sino ‘yung talagang gustong mag-file. Kaya nga very vague, shapeless, formless, 'yung mga ganitong klaseng pag-uusap,” Adiong said at a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.

(First of all, we don't know who really wants to file. That's why these kinds of conversations are very vague, shapeless, and formless.)

The lawmaker was asked to comment on claims made by House Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice of Caloocan City that the planned impeachment complaint against President Marcos, Jr. is based on the insertions and unprogrammed appropriations provided under the 2023, 2024, and 2025 budgets.

The Palace has earlier said that Marcos is ready to face any impeachment complaint against him.

Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castor had also shrugged off a supposed plan to file an impeachment complaint against Marcos, saying such a move would be “political maneuvering.”

For his part, Tingog Partylist Representative Jude Acidre said that “unlike the previous impeachment of the Vice President, it was preceded by a series of investigations.”

Meanwhile, Acidre said that the House is still waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on its motion for reconsideration on the high tribunal’s ruling declaring the impeachment raps filed against Vice President Sara Duterte in 2025 as illegal.

Nonetheless, the party-list lawmaker said that the House would pattern its procedure for impeachment based on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“I think that would be reflected in any case if there's a consensus that would be reflected in the rules for impeachment that we have yet to approve for this 20th Congress. But nonetheless, that is not to preempt what the final resolution would be on the pending motion for reconsideration,” Acidre said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
