Marcos touts upgrades, improvements to PH airports

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday cited ongoing government and private sector airport upgrades during the unveiling of Philippine Airlines’ newest aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000.

Speaking at the event held at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, Marcos said construction and upgrade projects are currently being implemented at several provincial airports.

A modular passenger terminal building (PTB) is under construction at Siargao Airport in Surigao del Norte, while Davao International Airport in Davao City is building a new international PTB.

Airport upgrades through partnerships with the private sector are also ongoing at Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental, Bohol-Panglao Airport in Bohol, and Caticlan Airport in Aklan.

The President also cited the modernization of the Manila International Airport under a public-private partnership, noting the launch of new facilities and immigration e-gates as of December 2025 to make travel faster and more efficient.

“While airlines move people, the government ensures that those pathways remain strong and clear. These are our investments in mobility, in opportunity, and in national progress,” Marcos said.

“These (upgrades) are our investments in mobility, in opportunity, and in national progress,” he added.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure, modernizing airports, enhancing connectivity, and boosting the economy, while urging private partners to continue supporting aviation-centered initiatives.

“I also encourage our private partners to continue working with us. Build on aviation-centered initiatives that will sharpen the Philippines’ competitiveness and open more doors for our people,” he added.

During the event, Marcos lauded Philippine Airlines for its contributions to Philippine aviation and commended the A350-1000, noting that it is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and only the 10th worldwide.

He said the launch of the aircraft would open new opportunities for long-haul travel.

“The unveiling of the Airbus A350-1000 underscores the importance of keeping pace with a rapidly evolving aviation industry. These milestones point us firmly towards the future. They strengthen our aviation sector, expand connectivity, and open doors to trade, tourism, and investment,” Marcos said.
