1 killed in maritime incident in Surigao due to Ada — PCG

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday that at least one person was reported dead in a maritime incident amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ada, which has since weakened into a tropical depression.

The PCG said it recorded three maritime incidents due to Ada.

“Pagdating sa Bagyong Ada, mayroon tayong tatlong natanggap na mga maritime incidents and out of that three incidents po, 31 ang na-rescue po ng Philippine Coast Guard. Although mayroon tayong isang reported na casualty sa area po ng Surigao,” said PCG spokesperson Noemie Cayabyab in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

(Regarding Tropical Depression Ada, we received reports of three maritime incidents. Out of those three incidents, 31 individuals were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard. However, we do have one reported casualty in the Surigao area.)

The PCG also said there were no longer any stranded passengers in ports due to Ada.

“As we speak wala na po tayong reported na stranded na pasahero sa lahat po ng pantalan,” Cayabyab said.

(As we speak, we no longer have any reported stranded passengers in any of our ports.)

“Dahil gumanda na rin yung panahon at wala na rin pong nakataas na signal sa iba’t-ibang area. So definitely cancelled na po ang ating mga suspension,” she added.

(Because the weather has improved and there are no longer any storm signals raised in various areas, our trip suspensions are now lifted.)

The PCG also said that Matnog Port in the Bicol Region recorded the highest number of stranded passengers during Ada’s peak.

“Based on the record, particularly po ‘yan sa Bicol Region sa may Matnog Port. ‘Yan po talaga ang malaking bilang na mayroon po tayong mga stranded na pasahero nung nakaraang araw po,” said Cayabyab.

(Based on the records, that was particularly in the Bicol Region at Matnog Port. That is where we had the largest number of stranded passengers over the past few days.)—MCG, GMA Integrated News
