No malicious allegations will distract PNP from locating Atong Ang —Nartatez

No malicious allegations will distract PNP from locating Atong Ang —Nartatez

Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that "unfounded allegations" against the police will not derail efforts to locate fugitive businessman Atong Ang.

“We are mindful of all the allegations involving the integrity of the PNP. We verify and immediately take action as part of our efforts to sustain the trust and confidence of the Filipino people to their police force,” Nartatez said in a statement released Wednesday.

The acting police chief also maintained that despite such allegations, the PNP remains focused on doing its duty.

“Our personnel will not be distracted by these unfounded accusations. Walang pruweba ang sinumang nagaakusa sa atin nang ganito,” he added.

(Our personnel will not be distracted by these unfounded accusations. Those making such accusations have no proof.)

Nartatez also dismissed claims that the police are withholding information about Ang’s whereabouts in order to claim the P10-million reward offered for his arrest.

“Nakafocus tayo sa paghahanap kay Atong Ang at gaya ng mga pamilya ng mga nawawalang sabungero, gusto rin nating mapanagot ang tunay na nasa likod ng kanilang pagkawala,” he added.

(We are focused on finding Atong Ang and like the families of the missing sabungeros, we also want those truly behind their disappearance to be held accountable.)

Nartatez also warned that anyone found assisting a fugitive will face legal consequences, stressing that sanctions are even more severe for erring police officers and other government personnel.

Ang is facing multiple arrest warrants issued by the courts in Santa Cruz, Laguna, and Lipa City, Batangas in relation to the missing sabungeros case.

All 21 of his co-accused, including 12 active police officers, have been apprehended.

Nartatez said sufficient police resources have been deployed nationwide to locate Ang and recognized the efforts of officers working continuously to arrest Ang. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
