BJMP: Jail facilities ready for possible arrest of Atong Ang

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said on Wednesday that its facilities are ready in case tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang is located and arrested in connection with the abduction of cockfighting enthusiasts.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by a Regional Trial Court in Santa Cruz, Laguna for kidnapping with homicide, the BJMP said the Santa Cruz District Jail is prepared to accommodate Ang.

“In the case of Atong Ang, the court that issued the order is in Santa Cruz, Laguna. Our nearest facility is the Santa Cruz District Jail, and it is ready," BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera said in an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

"Although it is an old jail with a congestion rate of 699 percent, it can still accommodate him (Ang),” he added.

The BJMP said it is also monitoring cases pending in Batangas and San Pablo City, Laguna, noting that jail facilities in these areas are likewise prepared.

“We are also monitoring pending cases in Batangas and San Pablo, Laguna, and our facilities there are also ready,” Bustinera said.

On Tuesday, the National Bureau of Investigation attempted to serve the warrant of arrest against Ang at one of his alleged properties in San Antonio, Zambales, but he was not found.

The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has also sought the issuance of an Interpol red notice against Ang.
