PH Navy deploys ships, aircraft in search for missing boat in Davao Occidental
The Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) on Thursday said it has intensified search and rescue operations for the missing MBCA Amejara in Davao Occidental with the deployment of surface and air assets.
In a statement, NFEM said it immediately mobilized naval vessels BRP Tagbanua (LC296), BRP Artemio Ricarte (PS37), and BA491 of the 3rd Boat Attack Division to conduct surface search operations.
Personnel from Naval Special Warfare Unit 7 were dispatched to assist in the ongoing efforts.
A Beechcraft King Air C90 aircraft (NV392) was also deployed to conduct aerial surveillance, according to the NFEM.
“NFEM assures the public and the families of those on board that every effort is being made to locate the missing motor banca and support all those affected during this difficult time,” the NFEM said.
“The Command understands the distress this situation brings, and NFEM will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available,” it added.
According to the military, the search and rescue operations continue 24/7 in close coordination with relevant maritime agencies and stakeholders.
The boat was reported missing on Monday.
The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) earlier said the boat that went missing in the vicinity waters of Davao Gulf was carrying 16 people.
One of the four crew members was rescued in the vicinity waters off Barangay Laker, Sarangani on Tuesday.
Three crew members and 12 passengers remain missing, the Coast Guard said as of Wednesday.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
