Ex-gov't execs attempt to file 3rd impeachment complaint vs Marcos
Former government officials attempted Thursday afternoon to file a third impeachment complaint against President "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
But the Office of the Secretary General refused to accept it as House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil is abroad to receive an award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This also happened when Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and allied groups tried to file an impeachment complaint against the President earlier in the day.
But unlike Bayan which left a copy of the complaint with the Office of the Secretary General, this group did not.
Former Rep Jacinto Paras said they attempted to leave a copy but it was not received.
When asked if they intend to return on Monday, former representative and Environment and Natural Resources secretary Mike Defensor initially said they will not but later on replied that they will study other legal options.
"The refusal of the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives to accept the impeachment complaint is a clear violation of both the rules of the House and the 1987 Philippine Constitution," Defensor said
The complainants, including former Armed Forces chief-of-staff Hermogenes Esperon, and former governor Chavit Singson, wore peach ribbons to symbolize their call to im-peach the President. They were accompanied by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio.
When asked if they are pro-Duterte, the group said they are pro-Filipino.
The group said three members of the House of Representatives endorsed their complaint but refused to name them
On January 19, lawyer Andre de Jesus filed the first impeachment complaint against the President since he assumed office on June 30, 2016.
House Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay endorsed the complaint, which was filed on the grounds of graft and corruption, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust..—AOL, GMA Integrated News
