Kiko Barzaga files counter-affidavits over 2 complaints at DOJ

Cavite Representative Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga on Thursday personally filed his counter-affidavits with the Department of Justice (DOJ) in relation to two complaints against him.

Barzaga said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) filed two complaints against him over his commentary on certain issues in October 2025

According to the Justice Department, one of the complaints was for Violation of Article 153 (Tumults and Disturbance in Public Places), Article 155 (Alarm and Scandal, and BP 880 (Public Assembly Act of 1985).

The other complaint was for violation of Article 142 (Inciting to Sedition) and Article 138 (Inciting to Rebellion or Insurrection) of the Revised Penal Code as amended by Presidential Decree 1834, in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Barzaga, meanwhile, maintained he has a right to free speech.

In December, the House of Representative adopted a recommendation of the House Ethics Committee to suspend Barzaga after he was found guilty of disorderly behavior in relation to his allegedly inappropriate social media posts.

The House imposed a 60-day suspension without salaries and allowances on the outspoken lawmaker.

When asked what he is working on during his suspension, Barzaga said he was busy with his “meow, meow.”

“Mga pusa. I still take care of my cats, my pets. And then recently we had a Christmas break… mostly chill lang ngayon,” he said.

“I still attend ‘yung mga local events… I still have regular meetings with practically anyone who wants to meet me,” he added. —RF/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
