NTC sets public hearing for data transmission rules

NTC sets public hearing for data transmission rules

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is set to hold a public hearing which will tackle the policies that will govern data transmission service, with the aim to improve internet access and connection services across the country.

In a statement issued Friday, the NTC said the public hearing would also discuss qualifications and standards for Data Transmission Industry Participants under Republic Act No. 12234, or the Konektadong Pinoy Act.

These measures are necessary in expanding competition, improving digital services, and accelerating connectivity across the country, according to the NTC.

This month, the NTC also had a coordination meeting with the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to ensure that their policies on this matter are aligned.

In September of last year, the NTC and the PCC inked a pact that will promote fair competition and regulatory coordination in the data transmission industry.

The MOA was forged pursuant to Section 18 of the Konektadong Pinoy Act, which mandates the PCC and NTC to develop interagency cooperation mechanisms, including information-sharing tools, to ensure effective enforcement and uphold the principles of fair competition in the data transmission industry. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
