MalacaƱang on reports Marcos would undergo surgery: Fake news

Malacañang on Monday denied reports that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would undergo surgery for diverticulitis.

At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro dismissed the reports circulating on social media as "fake news," saying Marcos was currently in a meeting.

"Wala pong ganoong balita na maibibigay po tayo dahil ngayon po, ang Pangulo ay nasa meeting. So, iyan po ay fake news," Castro told reporters.

(We have no such report because the President is in a meeting. That is fake news.)

Castro said the President is now in good condition after he was placed under medical observation last week due to diverticulitis, or the inflammation of irregular bulging pouches in the wall of the large intestine.

Asked if he will show himself to the public, the Palace official said: "Iyong pagmi-meeting po ngayon...malamang po ay mai-post ito para po mapakita natin na ang Pangulo po ay nasa maayos na kundisyon."

(The meeting will be posted on social media to show the President is in good condition.)

On January 22, Marcos issued a video message assuring the public he is fine and that what he experienced was not a life-threatening condition. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
