BuCor signs MOU with energy company for solar power
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Tuesday announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an energy company to explore the possibility of converting correctional facilities to solar power.
BuCor said the MOU was signed by BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. and BDLS Core Energy and Construction Solutions president Romel Paradero.
“We have to innovate and think of ways on how to maximize our resources and going solar is the way to go to save costs on electricity," Catapang said in a statement.
The agency said that BDLS will conduct a technical and financial feasibility study to assess converting correctional facilities to solar power and other renewable energy resources.
BuCor said this will come at no cost to the government.
BDLS will then prepare and submit a comprehensive report of its findings and recommendations to BuCor.
Meanwhile, BuCor will grant BDLS access to the relevant correction facilities.
According to Catapang, BuCor previously spent P162 million for its electricity bill nationwide. Of this, P102 million is attributed to the National Bilibid Prison.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
