Recto sees passage of anti-political dynasty bill before COC filing for 2028 polls

Recto sees passage of anti-political dynasty bill before COC filing for 2028 polls

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto expressed confidence Wednesday that the anti-political dynasty bill would be passed before the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2028 elections.

''Palagay ko, basta hindi masyado extreme ang ideas to move the needle, so to speak, dapat may mapasa tayong version ng anti-political dynasty bill,'' Recto told reporters when asked if the bill could be passed before the filing of COCs in 2027.

(Yes, I think. For as long as the ideas weren't that extreme to move the needle. We need to pass a version of the anti-political dynasty bill.)

Recto said this proposed measure is being studied by lawmakers and the Office of the President.

''Pinagaaralan ngayon 'yan ng both House, Senate at Office of the President. So tingnan natin pero priority 'yan,'' Recto said.

(That bill is being studied by both the House, the Senate and the Office of the President. So, let's see but it's a priority measure.)

The President earlier urged Congress to prioritize the passage of the Anti-Dynasty Bill.

Several measures have been filed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate seeking to give effect to the 1987 Constitution’s provision mandating the prohibition of political dynasties.

Some lawmakers urged Marcos to certify the measure as urgent legislation as soon as possible.

Malacañang had said the political landscape in the country has already changed, prompting Marcos to support the proposed anti-dynasty measure. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
