OTS, PAL discuss civil aviation security for ASEAN, passenger surge on Chinese New Year season

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) and Philippine Airlines (PAL) officials discussed reinforcing coordinated security preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of ASEAN 2026 and surge in passengers during the celebration of the Chinese New Year.

In a statement, the OTS said the meeting, which was led by Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto D.C. Cruz, "focused on aligning government and industry efforts to ensure robust civil aviation security, seamless airport security screening operations, and efficient passenger movement amid increased international and domestic travel."

"Usec. Cruz underscored the importance of proactive planning and close coordination to uphold safety, security, and public service delivery during major international events," the agency said.

The PAL representatives who attended the meeting were during the meeting were Vice President for Security Capt. Teddy Quinzon, PN (Ret), Vice President for Ground Operations Matthew Tamara, Vice President for Airport Operations Department Alfred Adriano, Assistant Vice President for Ground Operations Jane Go, and Security Department Manager Jorge Amba.

"Both agencies emphasized the need for heightened security readiness, integrated operational procedures, and responsive measures to address peak travel demands, while maintaining world-class service standards for passengers, foreign delegates, and tourists."

The other items discussed include support for tourism growth, traveler confidence, and to "ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable journeys through secure and well-managed airport environments." — BAP, GMA Integrated News
