Several personalities and groups held motorcade caravans on Saturday, calling for the resignation of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the accountability of corrupt public officials.

According to a 24 Oras Weekend report by Jamie Santos, participants honked their horns along major streets as they urged unity against corruption.

A group led by former congressman Mike Defensor traveled along EDSA from White Plains to Monumento, then circled Commonwealth Avenue before ending at the House of Representatives.

Another caravan, organized by former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon Jr., took place in Parañaque, moving along C5 to Marcos Highway and concluding at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

Vehicles displayed tarpaulins calling for looters to be held accountable and to return stolen goods. Some motorists also joined in, honking their horns in support of the caravans.

Meanwhile, Malacañang appeared skeptical of the credibility of the caravan organizers.

“Yung tahimik sa lantarang korapsyon sa nakaraang administrasyon, nasaan sila noon? Naging enabler ba sa pagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan noon? Naging kasabwat din ba? Huwag magpakahipokrito. Kailangan natin ang mga taong totoong lumalaban sa korapsyon,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a statement.

(To those who were silent about the blatant corruption in the previous administration, where were they then? Were they then enablers of the theft of the public treasury? Were they also accomplices? Don't be hypocrites. We need people who are truly fighting corruption.)

“Pinapaalam namin ang tunay na kalagayan ng Pangulo, huwag silang bulag o bingi. Huwag din silang manatiling source ng fake news,” she added.

(We are informing about the real situation of the President, they should not be blind or deaf. They should not be a source of fake news.)

Organizers said the activity aimed to demonstrate unity and press for accountability.

“Noong isang linggo, ‘Impeach PBBM.’ Ngayon, patuloy ang panawagan na ‘PBBM resign’!” Defensor said in a speech during the event.

(Last week, there were calls to “Impeach PBBM.” Today, the call for PBBM to resign continues.)

The groups peacefully dispersed after reaching Batasan. —MCG/VBL, GMA Integrated News
