Papal nuncio backs Filipino Catholics’ Roblox initiative

Young Filipino Catholics using online games and social media to share their faith are helping bring church teachings to more people in new and creative ways, Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown said on Sunday.

In a message marking the fifth anniversary of Roblox Filipino Catholics, Brown praised the group for using the online gaming platform Roblox to teach Catholic beliefs and values, especially to young people.

“I wholeheartedly support your inspiring initiative, which empowers young people by offering innovative access to Church catechesis through the Roblox platform," Brown said in his message dated January 10.

"It is a welcome sign of progress when young Catholics take an active role in shaping a more fraternal and compassionate society,” he added.

Brown also cited the value of the group’s online community, saying it can provide support and connection, particularly for those who feel isolated.

“The social hub you have built, albeit virtually, can serve as a space of mutual encouragement, especially for those most in need of support, recognition, and companionship. Such connections can blossom into genuine friendships that strengthen the community,” he said.

The group has been recreating Catholic religious events and images and churches, including the Feast of the Black Nazarene, the image of Santa Marta in Pateros, and the San Sebastian Parish in Pasig City.

“I was happy to learn that you even created an online simulation for this year's Feast Day of Jesus Nazareno, allowing those unable to join the crowd in Quiapo, Manila, to still participate meaningfully,” Brown said.
