DOTr turns over first housing units for NSCR-affected families

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Wednesday the pilot turnover of over 200 housing units for families in Biñan, Laguna and San Fernando, Pampanga to be relocated due to the ongoing North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project.

In a news release, the DOTr said 80 units were turned over to affected relocatees under the "The Meadows Housing Project" in Barangay Langkiwa in Biñan, Laguna on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The Meadows Housing Project will have 2,030 units in 26 buildings, which are currently being completed by the DOTr in partnership with local government units.

In Pampanga, 170 housing units were previously turned over in San Fernando for families also affected by the NSCR project, the DOTr added.

Also on Wednesday, the Transporation Department reiterated that it was expediting the construction of 16,725 housing units for more families who will be displaced by the construction of the 147-kilometer railway.

"Ang sabi ng Pangulo dapat tapusin na agad ang pagtatayo ng mga relocation sites para sa mga apektado ng NSCR. Bukod sa housing units ay pinopondohan din ng DOTr ang kumpensasyon at pangkabuhayan ng mga relocated na pamilya," said Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni "Banoy" Lopez.

(The President has ordered the immediate completion of relocation sites for those affected by NSCR. Apart from housing units, the DOTr also funds the compensation and alternative livelihoods of families to be relocated.)

Apart from The Meadows Housing Project, the DOTr said it is also constructing several relocation sites in partnership with local government units and other partner agencies.

Among the relocation sites in Laguna are the "Sining Residence II" with 1,920 units, "Sining Residence I" with 528 units, and "Rizal Ville" with 2,130 units.

The Transportation Department is also developing relocation sites in Naic, Cavite with 5,452 units.

For the north segment of the NSCR, the DOTr said it is developing three relocation sites in Pampanga in partnership with the National Housing Authority (NHA).

The agency is likewise targeting to relocate 4,515 informal settler families in Angeles City and San Fernando City, Pampanga to Calumpit, Bulacan. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
