ACT-CIS party-list representative Edvic Yap resigns
ACT-CIS party-list Representative Edvic Yap has resigned from his post as a member of the House of Representatives.
Yap informed the House plenary of his resignation through written communication to his colleagues, which was read during the House's plenary session on Wednesday.
His resignation came some three months after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Yap and Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador Pleyto received money through bank transfer from contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya, key figures in the multi-billion peso flood control corruption scandal.
Edvic is the brother of Benguet Lone District Representative Eric Yap, who has also been implicated in the flood control controversy. Remulla had said Yap was as a "person of interest" in connection with fully paid yet unfinished flood control projects built in La Union by a firm he previously owned.
Eric served as the chairman of the House appropriations committee from 2020 to 2022.
He had previously denied claims of "surprise whistleblower" Orly Guteza that he delivered suitcases of money to then-Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co in connection with flood control projects.
The Benguet congressman had branded the allegations as "untrue," and vowed to clear his name at the proper time and forum.
Last December, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced that the Court of Appeals has issued a freeze order on the personal accounts and assets of the Yap brothers. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
