BI nabs Chinese for misrepresenting himself as Pinoy
A Chinese man, who attempted to misrepresent himself as a Filipino, was arrested in an entrapment operation in Tacloban City.
On January 29, immigration authorities apprehended the 53-year-old man in a commercial establishment in Abucay for overstaying and working in the Philippines sans proper work visa.
According to the BI, another Chinese national was also nabbed during the operation. The individual was likewise found to be overstaying in the country since 2023 and was engaged in unauthorized employment despite only having tourist status.
Both foreigners failed to present valid immigration records.
Moreover, the 53-year-old man attempted to misrepresent himself as a Filipino citizen and presented a Philippine Identification (ID) Card during questioning.
“We will not tolerate foreigners who overstay, misrepresent themselves, or illegally engage in work at the expense of our laws and our people,” said BI Commissioner Joel Viado.
"These operations reflect our continuing coordination with intelligence and law enforcement partners to protect public interest and national security,” Viado added.
Both foreigners were flown to Manila and are now staying at the BI warden facility while undergoing deportation proceedings. — Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA Integrated News
