PAWS, AskAbogado to offer free legal consultation for animal cruelty cases

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and legal network AskAbogado will offer free legal consultation for qualified cases of animal cruelty in the Philippines.

In an announcement on Friday, the organizations said that free legal advice will be given by their volunteer lawyers on February 15 for the following types of animal cruelty cases, among others:

  • physical abuse or maltreatment of animals
  • neglect, abandonment, or failure to provide proper care
  • killing of animals in a cruel or unlawful manner
  • dog fighting, horse fighting, and other acts punishable under the Animal Welfare Act (Republic Act 8485, as amended by Republic Act 10631)

The partnership is being conducted as part of AskAbogado’s first year anniversary.

“Join us as we use the law to protect those who can’t speak for themselves—and celebrate one year of making legal help more accessible,” they said in a Facebook post.

The organizations are set to release further details on eligible beneficiaries and registration instructions in the coming days. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
