36 injured due to Basyang; death toll remains at 12 — NDRRMC


 

A total of 36 individuals have been injured due to Tropical Storm Basyang while the death toll remained at 12, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its situational report dated February 8, the NDRRMC said 36 were injured in Region 10. It said that nine fatalities were recorded in Region 10 and three were in Caraga.

“Meron tayong 12 nasawi dito sa Bagyong Basyang. ‘Yung apat dito landslide from Cagayan de Oro. ‘Yung iba po, merong tatlo from Iligan City, merong isa na for verification pa, and then meron din sa isa na… due to drowning. Ganon din sa Caraga merong tatlo,” OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo said on Super Radyo dzBB.

(We have 12 fatalities here due to Tropical Storm Basyang. Four of those were from a landslide in Cagayan de Oro… Three were from Iligan City, one is still for verification, and then there is also one… due to drowning. The same in Caraga, there are three.)

Castillo stressed that the fatalities are up for verification.

According to the spokesperson, the number of affected individuals climbed to 700,000.

“Karamihan ng mga apektado doon sa Bagyong Basyang ay ito ngang mga kasamahan natin… dito sa Region 10, specifically ‘yung Iligan City, then meron din sa Cagayan de Oro, at sa Lanao del Norte, at saka doon din sa Caraga Region,” he said.

(Most of those affected by Typhoon Basyang are our fellow citizens… here in Region 10, specifically Iligan City, then there are also those in Cagayan de Oro, and in Lanao del Norte, and also there in the Caraga Region.)

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC report also showed that a total of 43 roads and 4 bridges were affected
