Marcos gives love advice on Valentine’s Day

President Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos

President Ferdinand Marcos “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday shared advice on love and relationships for Valentine's Day.

In his vlog, Marcos said that the secret to a long-lasting marriage, having been married for more than 30 years to First Lady Liza Marcos, is “bigayan.”

“Hindi naman pare-pareho ang lahat ng tao. Dapat nagbibigayan lang at nagkakaunawaan ang mag-asawa. Hindi puwedeng ‘my way or no way,’ dahil kapag ganoon, may isang laging malungkot. Kaya bigayan lang,” the President said.

(People are not all the same. Married couples should take turns to give way and understand each other. It can't be 'my way or no way,' because otherwise, someone will be sad. So give way.)

Marcos was also asked about his plans on Valentine’s Day.

“Kami siguro, mababaw lang ang kaligayahan namin. Makalibre lang kami ng isang evening na kung ano ang gagawin, hindi naman importante. Basta may konting free time na hindi namin iniisip ang trabaho, just to be with one another,” he said.

(We have simple joys. It would be good to have at least one evening free wherein we can just be with one another and not think of work.)

“Isa na ito sa pinakamahirap na gawin dahil halos lahat ng pamilya ko (This is one of the hardest to do because all of my family members), we are all very busy. I'm very busy. The first lady is very busy. 'Yung mga anak ko (My children) are also very busy," Marcos said.

"Kung minsan mahirap makabuo ng kahit ng sandali. Kahit Linggo may ginagawa. Isang araw lang o mag-dinner man lang. Basta't meron kaming opportunity na magsama, we take it. Hindi namin maplano talaga kung minsan,” he said.

(Sometimes it's hard for us to be complete even for a moment. Even on Sundays, there are things to do. Just one day or just to have dinner [would be fine]. When there is the opportunity to be together, we take it. Sometimes we don't even plan it.)

The country’s chief executive likewise shared advice to the youth.

“Well, enjoy yourselves. Enjoy each other's company. You know, it is rare to find someone. Like I say, kahit na hindi mo magiging asawa pero (even if you don't end up married), somebody that you care for and cares for you, who you have a very nice time together,” Marcos said.

“'Yun na nga bumalik tayo doon sa konsepto ng (So we go back to the concept of) friendship. That's what you should try to find. And once you have found it and it's Valentine's Day, enjoy it to the fullest. It is a lovely feeling,” he said.

In another post on social media on Valentine's Day, Marcos called First Lady Liza "the love of my life."

"My forever Valentine, Liza, You are the love of my life, the heart of our home, and the calm in the middle of everything. You make it all make sense. You complete me. Happy Valentine's Day [heart emoji]," he wrote.
